Alaska: Where Eagles Soar and Otters Roll
In a world that feels upside down, AI feared, and oligarched controlled…
We are reminded, once again, that this is not ALL to living this life within this world. There are reminders to a natural order of living surrounding us at all times; they are available to us whenever we take the time to notice it.
Accessing the five senses of smell, touch, hearing, seeing and tasting begin the process of calming the nervous system opening up pathways for beauty and life-affirming events to occur.
Two days into our trip from Anchorage to Seward Alaska, my son pulled over from the highway to tell me about the Turnagain Arm about 25 miles outside of Anchorage. One of the features of this waterway are the largest and most dramatic Alaska Bore Tides.
The mouth of the waterway starts out broad and quickly narrows in towards the mountains. But the most interesting part is that they have wave heights with their tide.
No ordinary tide. Its height ranges from a few inches up to 10 feet during extreme tidal shifts. People actually come out and surf these waves. There may only be three of them but apparently they are surf worthy!
While Benjamin is informing me of these tides, a woman (filled with giddy excitement) comes up to us and explains that there’s a pod of beluga whales coming up the arm and heading towards the ocean; they were expected to arrive within minutes of our arrival!
It was a Christmas miracle!
Calming this active nervous system of ours takes intentional effort.
Daily walks along this expansive pathways system proved to be relaxing, breathtaking, and convenient- just minutes from Benjamin’s home.
Murals painted on the walls of buildings all around Anchorage depict the history of the land, the animals and ways of natural order.
In the ocean, we witnessed giant foot long otters swimming (and playing) alongside us, while bald eagles soared above us.
Everything appears larger than life here!
Remember to return to your abilities within when the world becomes out-of-control. Find your center & breathe through your anxiety…
You never know when magic will meet you from around the corner.
You know, like an unexpected pod of migrating beluga whales.
