What You’ll Learn in Reiki Level I & II
If you are curious about Reiki training, one of the most practical questions you can ask is: What will I actually learn?
Reiki can sound abstract until you experience it. A good training gives you both context and practice. You learn where the system comes from, how to begin working with Reiki yourself, and how to develop confidence without pretending you know more than you do.
In our November Reiki Level I & II Certification in Salt Lake City, we will move from foundation to practice over the course of three days.
Reiki Level I: Building the foundation
Level I begins with your own relationship to Reiki. Before thinking about offering Reiki to anyone else, you learn how the practice feels in your own body and life.
Understanding Reiki and energy
We will explore what Reiki is, how people commonly experience it, and how to approach energy work without feeling like you need to force an experience. Some people notice warmth, tingling, spaciousness, emotion, or deep relaxation. Others experience something much quieter. There is no single “correct” sensation.
Usui Reiki history and principles
Understanding the roots of the practice matters. We will look at the Usui Reiki tradition, its principles, and the philosophy that supports the techniques. Reiki is more than where you place your hands. The principles help bring the practice into everyday life.
Self-treatment
Self-treatment is one of the most useful parts of Level I. You will learn a simple framework for practicing Reiki with yourself. This can become a form of daily care, grounding, reflection, or rest.
Creating a daily Reiki practice
You do not need an elaborate ritual. We will talk about realistic ways to incorporate Reiki into ordinary life so that the practice can continue after the training weekend ends.
Reiki Level II: Expanding your practice
Level II builds on the foundation of Level I and begins to explore what it means to offer Reiki beyond yourself.
Offering Reiki to others
You will learn practical approaches for sharing Reiki with another person, including how to prepare, how to work with touch or hands-off options, and how to stay attentive to the person receiving the session.
Developing intuition without abandoning discernment
Reiki can heighten your awareness of subtle cues. We will explore how to notice what you sense while remaining grounded and humble about interpretation. Intuition is useful when it is paired with consent, boundaries, and common sense.
Holding space without trying to fix
One of the most important skills in any helping practice is learning that you do not have to take responsibility for another person’s entire experience. Reiki offers a way to be present and supportive without making promises or forcing an outcome.
Confidence through practice
Confidence rarely arrives because someone tells you that you are ready. It grows through repetition, questions, feedback, and experience. Our small-group format gives you space to practice while support is still available.
Optional: Introduction to Reiki with Animals
Students who choose the animal Reiki option will also receive an introduction to sharing Reiki with animals.
Animals often respond best when they are given choice. Rather than forcing proximity or touch, animal Reiki emphasizes observation, respect, and allowing the animal to decide how close it wants to be and how long it wants to engage.
Eileen Naughton brings years of experience in animal Reiki and animal communication, and this portion of the training offers a gentle foundation for students who feel drawn to supporting animals.
What you do not need before you begin
You do not need a healing background. You do not need to be naturally intuitive. You do not need to have received Reiki many times. And you do not need a plan to become a professional practitioner.
You can learn Reiki because you want a personal practice. You can learn it to support people you love. You can learn it because you already work in wellness and want another tool. You can learn it because you are curious.
Curiosity is a perfectly good place to start.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can beginners take Reiki Level I and II together?
Yes. In a combined training, Level I establishes the foundation first and Level II builds on it. The material should be paced so students have time to understand and practice each stage.
What can I do after Reiki Level II?
You can continue Reiki as a personal practice or begin offering Reiki to others within the scope of your training, local requirements, and your own level of readiness.
Do I have to touch someone during Reiki?
No. Reiki can be offered with light touch or with the hands held away from the body, depending on consent, comfort, and the context of the session.
Can Reiki be used with animals?
Reiki can be shared with animals using a gentle, choice-based approach. In this training, animal Reiki is an optional introductory component rather than part of the standard Level I & II certification.
