Why I’m Finally Teaching Reiki
There’s a moment when something in you starts asking different questions.
Not just, “What should I do next?” but, “What is actually happening inside me?” How does energy move? How can I care for myself more honestly? How do I show up for the people I love, or the people I serve, without giving away everything I have?
Those questions are part of what brought me to Reiki years ago. They are also part of why I have waited to teach it.
Reiki has never felt like a technique to collect
Reiki can be described simply as a Japanese energy-healing practice developed through the Usui tradition. But that definition only tells you so much.
In practice, Reiki has been a way for me to become quieter, more attentive, and more honest about what I am experiencing. It has taught me to notice without immediately needing to fix. It has reminded me that presence can be useful even when there is no perfect answer.
That is one reason I did not want to teach Reiki simply because I had received the training or could technically pass the information along. I wanted the practice to live in me first. I wanted enough time to understand how it actually shaped the way I care for myself and how I sit with others.
Why teach it now?
At some point, waiting can stop being discernment and become another way of staying hidden.
I realized that the questions people were bringing to me were often the same questions Reiki had helped me explore: How do I trust what I am sensing? How do I stay grounded when someone else is hurting? How do I care deeply without taking everything on as my own?
I also realized that I wanted to teach Reiki in a way that felt small, human, and spacious. Not a crowded room where everyone is racing through material, but a setting where people can ask questions, practice, notice what comes up, and build confidence gradually.
That is what Eileen Naughton and I are creating this November in Salt Lake City.
What we’ll explore in Reiki Level I & II
Our weekend training brings together Usui Reiki Levels I and II.
Level I begins with the foundations: the history and principles of Usui Reiki, an introduction to how energy may be experienced, self-treatment, and ways to make Reiki part of ordinary life. The emphasis is not on performing. It is on developing your own relationship with the practice.
Level II expands from self-practice into offering Reiki to others. We will explore techniques, ethics, intuition, and what it means to hold space in a grounded and compassionate way.
Eileen also brings deep experience in animal Reiki and animal communication. For students who feel drawn to this work, there is an option to add an Introduction to Reiki with Animals. It offers a beginning framework for sharing Reiki respectfully with animals, allowing them choice in how they engage with the practice.
Who is this training for?
You do not need to already think of yourself as a healer.
You might be curious about energy and want to understand it more clearly. You might already work in yoga, wellness, coaching, bodywork, caregiving, or another helping profession. You might want a practice that supports your own nervous system and self-care. You might want another way to care for your family or your animals.
Or Reiki may simply keep appearing in your life, and you are ready to understand why.
There is no requirement to turn Reiki into a business or a professional identity. Learning it can be valuable even if the practice remains completely personal.
You do not need to have it figured out
One of the things I hope people feel when they walk into this training is relief.
You do not need the right vocabulary. You do not need to be naturally intuitive. You do not need to arrive knowing exactly what you believe about energy. And you certainly do not need to be perfect at meditation or spiritual practice.
You need curiosity, openness, and a willingness to practice.
That is enough to begin.
