A Writer Must ALWAYS Write

Today, I’m talking about writing and as always, I would love to share my passion with Salt Lake City reiki healing with you.

Why is it important for a writer to practice writing?

In essence, writing is a multifaceted process that benefits a writer on many levels. I’m a Reading Specialist and a Special Educator (retired); the writing process for me as an instructor was to:

  • Make the process of writing fearless rather than fearful

  • Remind my students that they cannot be the editor while they’re being the writer

  • Allow for the creative juices to flow - explore an idea thoroughly

It was a process and I wanted my students to know that I stood by them the whole entire time.

Recently, one of my former students showed me her story. She had typed out three chapters of a thriller; I mean, seriously scary story! I loved it. When she started working with me, she struggled to write a single word and would cry and hide under the table. She was FEARFUL of her spelling. She only heard the voices of so many former teachers before her telling her she can’t write, and that voice in her head was on repeat.

She has managed to MUTE that voice! It was thrilling. (and so is her “brrrr” scary story)

Salt Lake City reiki healing

I’m currently at a Timepiece Writers Retreat for myself hosted by Author Ready and Richard Paul Evans. I’ve completed the 2nd edition of Revealing Grace, launching in October honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the Survivor Wellness House. It was HERE at this retreat that I decided to do this a year ago.

At the beginning of my Timepiece Ranch 2024 Writer’s Retreat, I had planned on writing a children’s book. Three days later, I had scheduled appointments with editors and support staff through Author Ready to re-edit and launch my book about my Cancer Adventure and the Community who helped me through it.

Who’d ‘da thunk?

The community at Timepiece Ranch are sweet and endearing; very supportive and kind people. We are given many opportunities to process thoughts, explore ideas, and ultimately gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

As in my own Yoga for Wellness writing retreats, the process of writing allowed us to share our stories, experiences, and knowledge with others, fostering connections and making a positive impact.

As for the Children’s books? Well, I’ve written 5.

I’m now chasing and pursuing the publisher/agent beast and will hopefully find one. The Blue Swing is my most polished Children’s book. It’s about a 5-year old who experiences anxiety but has found a way of managing all her big feelings during a time when she is faced with big challenges. One of her tools is swinging on her favorite blue swing. . It’s a super sweet book.
