Michiganders vs Washingtonians

Today I want to discuss both the crucial difference between Michiganers and Washintonians as well as Salt Lake City reiki healing.

Michiganders
(and two Utahns)

It’s challenging to Google Michiganders vs Washingtonians and NOT come up with a sports reference. I mean, it seems like every year Michigan is playing in one bowl or another!

But that is not why I’m writing about

Michigan or Washington.

Our sweet niece, Liesl (the cute one leaning into Benjamin - who has his fingers in his mouth!) grew up in Michigan but has lived in Eastern Washington for the past decade.

So I have to ask …

When is it officially decided that she is now considered a Washingtonian?

Legally, it only takes one year to become a resident of a new state. But have you ever met a Michigander? They’re kinda intense about their culture. I mean, internally, when do you think it’s okay to refer to yourself as a Washingtonian? (and more importantly, does this mean that when and if by doing so, a person completely abandons their origin of birth???)

This is a serious question.

(neither a Washingtonian nor a Michigander. She is a Calfornian. I digress …)
My niece Liesl on the right
(Her cultural ties lie in the balance)

Now, I haven’t even asked Liesl where her heart resides. But she’s scientifically-minded and I truly believe that she would approach this perplexing question in a scientific manner.

  • I can see her first defining her target population and then choosing a sampling method.

  • She may choose a Simple Random method or a Stratified Sampling method. But then again she may prefer a Cluster Sampling or a Systematic Sampling. But not a Quota Sampling - this is clearly out of the question!

  • Once determined, she would need to consider the proper Sample Size. She would obviously need to determine the appropriate sample size based on her desired margin of error, confidence level and population size. (not to forget the Standard Deviation) She would definitely consider the fact that a larger sample size generally leads to more accurate results but her mid-western sensibilities would kick in and the expense and time-consuming factors would cause her to stray away from this.

  • She would select a proper Sampling Frame and be assured that it would be thoroughly comprehensive and accurate.

  • She would implement data collection methods. (surveys, interviews, etc.)

  • Lastly, she would strongly consider the Response Rate and the percentage of people who actually respond to the data collection method. She would consider the low response rates as bias.

And then …

Our Scientifically-minded niece Liesl would whole-heartedly determine that:

Once a Michigander, always a Michigander.

Maybe Michigan just gets in your blood having a strong sense of community and the longest coastline of any state except Alaska.

What state speaks to you?
