We’ve been together since college.
We met in San Francisco in the 1980’s and haven’t been apart since. Most recently, we celebrated the wedding of one of our friends, the next generation of Big Chillers. Although the wedding took place over a TWO-day fun fest, OUR version of celebration took over FOUR-days!
*As a caveat to the “reunion of hearts” I wrote about how our friend Mark (then a new father) remembered everything for his son for OUR wedding but forgot his own wedding clothing…. (Remember?)
Well…IT HAPPENED AGAIN!
(Just this time, HIS own son’s wedding!)
insert inappropriately snickering -
He transported a most delicious homemade wedding cake for the couple but forgot his tie at home. When he ran home, he retrieved his tie but accidentally left his jacket at home!
In the end, and with the help of a guest, borrowed an (almost fitting) jacket for the wedding photos (and THEN) the wedding proceeded without a glitch.
Anyway…
I digress
Why four days? Perhaps because we’re getting older and we kept falling asleep during each other’s conversations. (It happens) Perhaps we had more stories to tell and not enough time to tell them in OR perhaps because THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER IS, we really don’t know when the next time will come again when we get to see each other!
There is simply no time to waste these days.
OUR Big Chill Group is varied. This is to be expected.
Some of us got married. Some of us had kids. Some of us got divorced. Some of us have long term partners. Some of our partners died. … all of us could not have been half of who we are today without each other.
They helped us BE who we are today.

Annual POFA party. (Palace of Fine Arts) We eat cake and drink champagne first; then we go out for dinner.
We survived AIDS together.
Lived on the corner of Haight and Ashbury together.
Met the man who designed the Dancing Bears for the Grateful Dead together.
We have marched in a MILLION marches, Harvey Milk walk, AIDS walk, and a dozen Pride Parades,
We’re Godparents to each other’s children.

So, how do you know in the beginning that you’ll be friends forever? I have no idea. We simply followed our hearts … and they led us to each other.
Cultivating friendships is one of the joys of life and is timeless. Taking time to celebrate these friendships deepens your big and beautiful life.
