What My Clients Teach Me (Every Single Week)
I learn something every single week from the people who walk into my Reiki Room.
Sometimes it’s a mother in her sixties who hasn’t spoken to her daughter in years; saying these words aloud also helps her realize that she has not taken a deep breath in days.
Sometimes it’s a teenager who feels “too much.” Their anxiety is overwhelming and coping with academic demands on top of feeling these ‘big feels’ only leads to collapse (in one form or another)
Oftentimes, it’s someone who begins to cry before we’ve even said a word — simply because they feel relief the moment they step into a safe space.
What I’ve learned most is this
Healing often begins before the session starts. It begins when we meet it with compassion. When my client realizes that they no longer are required to hold everything all by themselves, this is
Two weeks ago, a client came in with so much energy swirling around her that she could barely sit still. She apologized for “not being calm enough for Reiki.” I smiled and told her, “Not to worry…” and then assured her that I was glad she was here.
An hour later, her stillness and heavy resting breathing informed me that she had resigned to the stillness of the room and within her body.
“Is this what stillness feels like?” she asked me when she flipped her body over onto her belly
I nodded. And was a little surprised when we both found ourselves a little teary.
I don’t heal anyone. In our Reiki training, we are taught that we are simply a conduit; a portal. But I do clear the space. I listen. I soften the air. And when the nervous system feels safe… your body remembers what it already knows how to do.
It remembers how to heal.
